Cookies & Local Storage
The short version
- Neither the game nor this website uses advertising or tracking cookies.
- This website (neonyxidle.com) stores nothing on your device and runs no scripts.
- If you buy something, you pay on a checkout page run by Stripe, which sets its own cookies. See Payments.
- The game stores your sign-in session, a local copy of your save, and your interface preferences, all to make the game work the way you set it up.
What the game stores on your device
The game uses your browser’s local storage and session storage, not cookies. Everything below is used only by Neonyx Idle and is never read by advertisers or other websites.
| Entry | Where | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
Sign-in session (sb-…-auth-token) | Local storage (web). Android Keystore (app). | Needed to play. Keeps you signed in. | Until you sign out or clear it |
Local save (cyberidle_save_…) | Local storage | Needed to play. A local copy of your save so the game can start quickly and recover from connection drops. Your server save is the real one. | Until you clear it. When you sign out it is cut down to your local settings. |
Android save copy (cyberidle_save_… in Android Preferences) | Android Preferences (the app’s own storage, not the web view) | Convenience only. A second copy of the local save, used only to restore it when it is missing or older. | Replaced on every save. Cut down to your local settings, or removed, when you sign out. Cleared with the app’s storage. |
Sign-in in progress (cyberidle_auth_redirect_pending) | Local storage (web) | Needed to play. The time you last asked to sign in, link an account or get an email link here, so only a sign-in this browser asked for can replace the account already signed in. It holds no account data. | Removed when that sign-in comes back; ignored after 24 hours |
Account hints (cyberidle_auth_user_id, cyberidle_display_name) | Local storage | Convenience only. Your account ID and your display name as last seen on this device. The display name is shown while the game loads. | Until you sign out or clear it |
Game configuration (cyberidle_runtime_config_v1, cyberidle_contract_pool_cache_v1) | Local storage | Convenience only. Caches game settings and the current contract list. | Replaced on update |
Interface preferences (cyberidle_chat_*, cyberidle_tasksummary_*, cyberidle_warchat_position, cyberidle_hide_*, cyberidle_combat_food_collapsed, cyberidle_equipment_stats_open, cyberidle_strategy_view, cyberidle_territory_life, neonyx_achievement_seen_tiers_v1, cyberidle_intro_panel_shown_*) | Local storage | Convenience only. Remembers window positions, collapsed panels (including the stats column on the Equipment page), whether the Strategy map shows the 3D city or the flat map, whether the Territory page animates its paintings (Off, Low or Full), dismissed notices, which achievements you have already seen, and that the Contracts panel has already been opened for you once on your first visit. | Until you clear it |
Territory city settings (neonyx.territoryView, sprawl*) | Local storage | Convenience only. Whether the Territory page shows the 3D city or the flat map, and the city’s own settings: quality, battery saver, reduce motion, faction patterns, minimap, news crawl, weather, local time and the idle tour. | Until you clear it |
Territory city camera (neonyxCityCam) | Session storage | Convenience only. Where the 3D city’s camera was, so it stays in place when the city reloads for new territory data. | Until the tab closes |
Territory city tap guide (neonyxCityTapGuide) | Local storage | Convenience only. Whether you have closed the 3D city’s first-visit “What you can tap” guide, so it does not open by itself again. Holds the value 1 only, no account data. | Until you clear it |
Territory city war results (neonyxCityResultsSeen) | Local storage | Convenience only. Which recent Territory War results the 3D city has already played on this device, so each capture moment plays once. Holds war ids only, no account data. | Until you clear it. Keeps the 40 most recent. |
Contract notices (neonyx_contract_notified_ followed by your account ID) | Local storage | Convenience only. Which completed contracts you were already told about, so each notice shows once. Your account ID is part of the entry’s name. | Until you clear it |
Closed announcements (neonyx_notice_dismissed_ followed by your account ID) | Local storage | Convenience only. Which game announcements (such as the daylight saving time notice) you already closed, so each one shows once. Your account ID is part of the entry’s name. | Until you clear it. Keeps the 30 most recent. |
Maintenance notice (neonyx_maintenance_last) | Local storage | Convenience only. That the game was under maintenance, and the message, so the notice still shows if a status check stalls. | Used for 30 minutes at most. Removed when the game next finds that maintenance is over. |
Restart marker (cyberidle_force_real_start) | Local storage | Convenience only. Written only by a testing button in development builds, never in the public game. Makes the next start ignore the local save once. | Removed at the next start |
Session markers (cyberidle_session_id, cyberidle_chunk_reload_at) | Session storage | Needed to play. Tells your open tabs apart and prevents reload loops after an update. | Until the tab closes |
Fight loot tally (nx-combat-session-loot) | Session storage | Convenience only. What your current fight has paid out (kills, credits, XP and items), so the LOOT window keeps its count if the page reloads. It holds no account data. | Until the tab closes; replaced when the next fight starts |
Each purpose starts with whether the game needs the entry in order to work properly (“Needed to play”) or whether it only remembers something for your convenience (“Convenience only”), such as a window position, a notice you have already seen, or a cached copy that makes loading faster. Because these entries are needed for the game to work, or only store preferences you set, they don’t require consent under EU and UK law. We don’t add optional tracking storage.
Analytics
The game uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to measure page views and loading performance. Vercel states that these tools do not set cookies or store identifiers on your device. Before a page address is sent to them, the game cuts it down: everything after a # sign is dropped, and so is every query parameter except the five campaign tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content), so an order reference or a sign-in code in the address is not recorded. These two tools run on the website only. The Android app does not load them. See the Privacy Policy for what they collect.
Payments (Stripe checkout)
When you buy something in the web game, the game sends you to a checkout page hosted by Stripe. That page is run by Stripe, not by us, and it can set its own cookies and use similar technologies on your device, for example to make the checkout work and to help prevent fraud. We do not set, read, or control them, and the game does not load Stripe’s code into its own pages. Stripe describes what it uses in its Cookie Policy. You only reach this page if you choose to buy. See the Privacy Policy for what we and Stripe each keep about a payment.
Android app
In the Android app, purchases are made on Google Play’s own purchase screen, which is run by Google, not by us. We set nothing for it. Your sign-in session is kept in the Android Keystore instead of local storage, and the app keeps a second copy of your local save in its private Android Preferences storage (see the table above). The app turns off Android’s automatic backup, so its local data, including your sign-in session, is not copied to your Google account.
How to clear it
- Browser: sign out in the game, then clear site data for the game’s address in your browser settings.
- Android: Settings › Apps › Neonyx Idle › Storage › Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
If you play as a guest and haven’t linked email or Discord, clearing this storage permanently loses your guest account. Link your account in Settings first.
